The path, one step at a time
Become Orthodox
Three stages, walked at the pace of your soul. No one is rushed. No one walks alone.
- Stage 1
The Inquirer
You are curious. That is already the Holy Spirit moving. No commitment — just honest seeking.
- Read the five readings in 'What is Orthodoxy?'
- Attend a Divine Liturgy at a local parish. Arrive early, stand quietly.
- Introduce yourself to the priest after Liturgy — just say 'I'm exploring.'
- Begin a simple daily prayer rule (even one minute counts).
- Stage 2
The Catechumen
You have been formally received into the Church's care. You now have a spiritual father and a home.
- Meet regularly with your priest for catechesis.
- Learn the Creed, the Our Father, and basic Orthodox prayers.
- Observe the Church's fasts as your priest advises.
- Build a prayer rule: morning prayers, Jesus Prayer, evening prayers.
- Read the Gospel daily — preferably according to the Church's calendar.
- Stage 3
Baptized & Chrismated
You are united to Christ in the Holy Mysteries. The beginning — not the end — of a life of theosis.
- Receive the Eucharist at every Liturgy your priest allows.
- Confess regularly. Struggle honestly. Fall and rise.
- Serve your parish. Visit the sick. Give to the poor.
- Keep the fasts. Celebrate the feasts. Love the saints.
- Remember: the life of the Church is a lifelong dance with Christ.
The most important step is the next one.
Find a parish. Meet a priest. The Liturgy is waiting for you.
